Someone SMACK me with religion!
i dont know how anyone else feels but i need religion. i don't feel WHOLE without it...but i don't believe that the catholic religion which i grew up in, is right for ME. i have been looking into buddhist religion and it sounds a whole lot like how i have been living ANYWAY! i feel like it's more of a "way of life" rather than a religion and i could go into it like that as... A WAY OF LIFE! i don't know about the "religion" because the ONE thing that i just don't think that i can let myself do in the buddhist religion is NOT believe in GOD or not necessarily GOD but just a higher being. i don't know if that makes sense or not but it does to me... lolanyway i was tellin mark about my dilema and he said that it didn't matter what i did and to do whatever makes me happy. well i don't know that much about other religions cause like i said before i was brought up CATHOLIC and i went to beliefnet.com and took their little religion pole and they match you up with what religion most closely fits your beliefs... imagine that! 100% matching with the buddhist religion. so ever since then i have been lookin into it. So what i need is all you "enlightened" ones to help me out! :) hee hee

Well, one of the major parts of being buddist is NOT believeing there is a god. so if you DO believe there is a god then buddist prolly isn't the choice for you. Are you feeling the need to worship? Like do you want a church to go to or something or just something to fill a gap in your life? I don't think I'm a baptist anymore. I believe in god but I don't believe in any of the other things they hold high on their lists, and I dn't go to church. I do worship, but it's personal, it's during a quiet time of the day or at night before I go to sleep, I'll have al ittle talk with God about the day and what my life is doing, and that fulfills me, I dn't need a church and 80 hypocrits staring at me and trying to bash their way of life into me in order to feel religious. I think that if you love god, and understand everything that came fromt he crucifiction and the reasons it happened and everything than you are holding up your part, your not required to attend church unless you just need church to make you feel closer to god but to me finding ways to bring yourself close to him on your own is much mush more powerful than using a doorway like a church to do it. I'm not real intellegent on matters of religion though, my honey is though. With his papa being a preacher and all before he died. But I honestly don't think that buddist is right for you because of your belief in god, but don't worry, there is something that'll fit you, you just have to keep searching for it. =)
I was raised catholic but now i go to a black baptist church... go figure! hey thanks for the your kind words regarding my little story... I actually wrote that in 6th grade... serial... Well, I am not sure about being 'enlighten' but... Buddhism does not mentioned of God, but they don't denied the existence of God or Gods either. God is just another existence, another realm of being. And all realms, no matter what shall pass. So I thought of it this way, God is just like our parents. God is there to give us life and bless us, but rest is up to us and how we make our life to be.
THANKS anonymous... that makes me feel a little better. i was just thinking cause the buddhist religion is kinda like an "atheist" religion and i DONT classify myself as atheist by any means. i BELIEVE in GOD! but i believe in the buddhist way of life! will that conflict come "judgement day"?

Thats not really a question anyone can answer. No one actually knows what happnes on "judgement day". Nobody really knows what the right religion is anyway, and if there was just one that was right then there would be millions of people that have been faitfhully worshipping their whole lives that wouldn't make it in. I think that as long as you believe, thats all you need to do. Stepping foot in a church isn't whats going to send you to heaven, it's the type of life you lead regardless of your beliefs.

hello! thank-you for wishing me luck with my dreaded midterms. gosh, i'll be needing as much as i can get unfortunately (luck, that is). anyhow, i'm right there with you in terms of figuring out an appropriate religion. thanks again for those small tidbits on catholicism. i haven't had much time to find out more about the religion but, i have to agree with you, its really a confusing matter. what is it that i really want? which religion will really satiate my need for faith? its terribly hard to come to a conclusion. anyhow, best of luck with buddhism. i grew up in a buddhist family but didn't really adhere to many of the religion's principles so i can't say that i know much about it. goodluck!

i have grown up in a very very christian home... i love it. my pastors are soo cool, he drive a motorcyle and my it's never boring. i actually am in charge of the band for the highschool and college age kids. but you know i like stuff like that!

well pinks: its funny that i really had my FIRST enjoyment of church in a black baptist church.. it was soo much FUN and i felt "at home" like i wasn't be judged or any of that. My girlfriend i use to work with took me cause it was "womans day" and that was the first and last time that i ever went to church and had fun!
